What is VoIP?

Voice calls carried over an internet connection.

Voice over Internet Protocol carries a conversation as data packets across an IP network instead of over the traditional switched telephone network. It is what makes a phone number independent of a physical line, and what allows a number in one country to be answered by a system in another.
